Samsung Tri-Fold phone patent reveals design in a different view

Samsung recently filed a new tri-fold patent that shows the design of the device from a different perspective. However, Huawei took the lead in the tri-fold race by launching the Mate XT Ultimate Design on September 10. But, Huawei and Samsung were scuffling for the world’s first triple-foldable crown. Now, let’s explore this patent.
The World IP Office published a new Samsung double-fold (tri-fold) smartphone patent listing, as spotted by PatentlyApple, which shows a “Multi-Foldable Electronic Device” that features a unique design offering two form factors: “fold in” and “fold out.” Let’s explore how Samsung includes a schematic diagram of the multi-fold device in various views.
- FIG. 12 and FIG. 2 show the rear view of an unfolded state and a front view of an unfolded state of a multi-foldable electronic device.
- FIG. 3 and FIG. 4 presentation thickness in an unfolded state, folded once and folded twice.
- FIG. 8 shows the tri-fold device on a triangle view with an angle of 60
- FIG. 9 shows a configuration of a tri-fold device that includes a first magnet and a second magnet.

Further, Samsung’s first tri-fold patent brings several sensors including such as:
- Hall sensor
- Acceleration sensor
- Angular velocity sensor
- Gyro sensor
- Folding detection sensor
- Proximity sensor
- Barometric pressure sensor
- Magnetic sensor
- Biometric sensor
- Temperature sensor
- Humidity sensor
- Fingerprint recognition sensor.
This listing shows that Samsung is still working towards launching its first tri-fold by 2025. On the other hand, the Korean tech giant aims to become the “best” tri-foldable manufacturer in the world.
Although this first tri-fold is currently in the patent stage, it’s likely that Samsung will adopt it at some point, possibly in late 2025 or early 2026, given that Huawei launched the first tri-fold, the Mate XT Ultimate Design, in September 2024. We should hear more about Samsung’s first tri-fold device in the coming months. Stay tuned
