Samsung Galaxy S25 gets 7 years of Android updates and security patches

Samsung’s new Galaxy S25 series will ship with Android 15 and One UI 7. It may receive Android 16 before the end of the year once Google makes it available. As we had expected, Samsung latest flagship, the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra will get Android, One UI, and security updates for seven years. Now, the new flagship phones are getting benefited by the company’s longer Android and regular software promise.
If you care about smartphone firmware updates and solid support, Samsung is the best OEM. Samsung extends its policy with seven years of updates through early 2024 with the Galaxy S24 series and is the only manufacturer to offer such long-term support other than Google.
How many software updates will the Samsung Galaxy S25 get?
The brand-new Galaxy S25 series follows that policy, which means the 2025 flagship trio will eventually receive seven major OS upgrades up to Android 22, or whatever Google will call its mobile OS in 2031.
In addition to Android updates support, the Samsung Galaxy S25 series will receive security patches for seven years as well after launch, which means that the company will support these phones until 2032 at the latest. Given the 2025 launches, these new Galaxy S series devices are slated to get new Android and One UI updates till 2032.
This means they won’t receive any major updates once they get Android 22 and One UI 14, presumably in late 2031/early 2032, but support for security patches will continue for a while after that.
Samsung’s new Galaxy S25 flagships run One UI 7 at launch. This update is one of the most noteworthy updates in the history of One UI. One UI 7 brings a major UI design revamp, some new AI features, improved stock apps, and smoother animations and transitions.
The Android 16-based One UI 8 will be the first major upgrade for the new flagship phones, which will be released later this year or in early 2026.

Good-bye: Samsung ends software update support for Galaxy Tab A7 Lite and Galaxy Tab S6 Lite

Samsung recently revealed details of the June 2025 security update, along with the revised list of the software update plan for Galaxy devices. Through this list, Samsung has officially announced the discontinuation of updates for the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite and Galaxy Tab S6 Lite.
Now, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite and Galaxy Tab S6 Lite have been removed from the biannual plan with the June 2025 security patch. Samsung has confirmed that these phones have completed their update cycle and will no longer be eligible to receive updates
Users of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite and Galaxy Tab S6 Lite can look forward to newer models such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 and Galaxy Tab S9 series, which offer enhanced features and the latest software.
The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite came with Android 10 in 2020, and the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite came with Android 11 in 2021 and has received updates for three years as promised. However, these phones will not get Android 14 or newer. After five years of software updates, Samsung has officially stopped support for these phones.
Although the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite and Galaxy Tab S6 Lite will no longer receive software updates, the phones will still be safe to use. They will continue to receive Google Play system updates, which include important fixes to keep apps running smoothly. This helps keep the phones safe even without the latest Android features.
