Samsung 50W wireless charging

Samsung is all set to launch the Galaxy S25 series on January 22 at the Unpacked 2025 event and some report claims that these new phones could bring fast charging up to 25W with the Qi2 standard. Now, a report suggests that Samsung is working on making high-speed 50W wireless charging mainstream.

Samsung has been on top of the smartphone world for a long time. However, its charging was always lagging behind some Chinese competitors. These shortcomings emerged due to a lack of sustainability and optimal product innovation. However, the Galaxy S25 will see major improvements.

Samsung S2MIW06 chip to support high-power wireless charging up to 50W

Samsung is now trying to make wireless charging faster for everyone by collaborating with the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) and developing Qi 2.2. Recently, the Korean tech firm introduced a new power management integrated chip (PMIC), the S2MIW06, and it manages wireless charging. The Samsung S2MIW06 chip allows for much faster wireless charging at up to 50W in receiver mode.

This latest power chip supports all Qi extensions to ensure better wireless charging experiences, including Baseline Power Profile (BPP), Extended Power Profile (EPP), and Magnetic Power Profile (MPP).

According to the blog post, Baseline Power Profile (BPP) supports up to 5W of wireless charging is the most basic profile and was first introduced with Qi v1.0 in 2010.

The Extended Power Profile (EPP) takes it up a notch to increase wireless charging up to 15W. EPP is used in most high-end Galaxy phones released over the past few years and adopts an appropriate hardware structure to enable higher-power charging, a fast-charging protocol, and a more precise debris detection algorithm.

Magnetic Power Profile (MPP) is required for the Qi2 standard (which is very important for precise alignment and efficient charging) and supports wireless charging up to 25W. It brings with it a magnetic alignment mechanism, which allows the phone to align perfectly with the wireless charger using strong magnets.

It’s worth noting that the MPP currently supports charging up to 25W, but Samsung’s new chip shows the potential to extend these limits to up to 50W wireless charging.
