Galaxy S24 Ultra selling Android 2024

A few hours ago, Samsung revealed the announcement date for the Galaxy S25 series. The company will unveil its next set of flagship smartphones including the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra on January 22, 2025, in San Jose, California. Now, a statement by Samsung to the WPC indicates that the Galaxy S25 series will feature the Qi2 wireless charging standard. This technology was already rumored and the company has now confirmed this by Samsung’s statement to WPC.

Samsung Galaxy S25 to support Qi2 Wireless Charging

Recently, the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) highlighted the benefits offered by Qi2 wireless charging and the expansion of the standard in a new press release. In the press release, the firm mentions a statement from two major Android handset members who have stated their Qi2 intentions for it:

Out of two Android members, Samsung reads The exceptional Qi2 growth story will continue in 2025. You can expect to see Android devices supporting Qi2 from Samsung Galaxy devices in 2025.”

Galaxy S25 Ultra Blue

Although the statement doesn’t directly name the devices, it does say that Galaxy devices will support the new Qi2 wireless charging standard starting in 2025. Meanwhile, we assume the Samsung Galaxy S25 lineup will be the first to feature Qi2 charging as this is the premium series set to launch.

Samsung’s current flagship Galaxy phones and tablets, which also feature Qi charging, support charging speeds of up to 15W without connecting the device to a port or cable. Now, the upgraded version, Qi2 charging, brings some significant improvements, including faster charging speeds of up to 25W. Notably, it also has magnets that let you attach any compatible accessories to the device.

Google words on Qi2 charging:

“Google is committed to the Qi2 wireless charging standard and increasing the penetration of Qi2 into Android handsets and other devices. Google is helping to achieve this goal by playing a leading role in the development of the upcoming Qi v2.2 standard, which includes Google’s contribution of its own high-power wireless charging technology to WPC.”
