Galaxy Note 20 January 2025 update

Samsung has released new firmware for its last Galaxy Note series phones. The Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra have started receiving the January 2025 security update in the US. This makes the nearly five-year-old S Pen phones more secure and reliable. It fixes a few dozen security vulnerabilities discovered in previous software versions.

In 2020, Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 20 series with Android 10-based One UI 2.5. It received subsequent updates to One UI 3, One UI 4, and One UI 5.1.

The tech giant has listed the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy Note 20 devices in the quarterly update list. Simply put, the devices will receive patches in three months. However, these rollouts are absolutely critical for the handset. So, prioritize them and install them instantly.

Looking into the information, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy Note 20 are receiving the January 2025 update with the One UI versions N986U1UESBHXL1 and N981U1UESBHXL1, respectively.

Notably, the latest update weighs around 400 MB. The package size hints that the new patch may have performance improvements and other internal changes for the device. It may optimize the stability and reliability aspects for the seamless functioning of the phone.

The update primarily brings the January 2025 security patch that eliminates 5 critical and 24 high-level major privacy exploits and 22 Samsung library vulnerabilities. Thus, installing the new firmware on your Galaxy device will unlock an efficient and bug-free experience.

If you have an unlocked Galaxy Note 20 series in the US, you can check for the new update right now. To do so, open the Settings app and navigate to Software update > Download and install.

As always, The update doesn’t bring any new features to the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. These phones didn’t even get the Android 15-based One UI 7 update. If you want to use newer versions of One UI, you should definitely consider upgrading to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which will launch on January 22.

Galaxy S22 One UI 7

Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G are well-loved smartphones in the Galaxy S series that have now shifted from a monthly to a quarterly update plan. This means that Galaxy users of these Galaxy flagship devices will now receive software updates every three months instead of every month.

The Korean tech giant recently announced its revised update schedule for its Galaxy devices, with the February 2026 security patch, and the Galaxy S22 series has been placed in the quarterly update category.

The Galaxy S22 still performs very well, and with the latest Galaxy AI features recently added via the One UI 8 update, it remains up-to-date. Furthermore, it will receive One UI 8.5 later this year, which will likely be the final One UI upgrade for the S22.

How many more updates will the Galaxy S22 get?

If you need a reminder, your Galaxy S22 series is eligible for Samsung’s four-year Android upgrade policy and will get four major OS upgrades. These phones launched with Android 12 and One UI 4.1 and have already received Android 16, along with their respective One UI updates.

Coming to the topic, although the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G 5G will continue to function properly, the change in the quarterly update schedule means that users will not receive the latest features and security enhancements as quickly as before.

If you own a Galaxy S22 series phone and are considering an upgrade, you might want to check out newer Samsung models like the Galaxy S26 series. These devices will launch later this month with new features in One UI 8.1, ensuring you stay up to date with the latest technology.

Galaxy S26 camera button

The Samsung Galaxy S26 series has started emerging in the leaks, and the latest one has shed light on the camera button of the upcoming 2026 flagship.

As mentioned by Android Authority, a former employee at a Samsung supplier revealed on LinkedIn that they contributed to an initiative developing a new camera button with swipe gesture functionality for the Samsung Galaxy S26.

This report states that Samsung is working on an Apple-style Camera Control button for the upcoming Galaxy S26 series. An Apple-style Camera Control button on iPhone models lets you quickly open your iPhone camera and access common camera settings.

We can now say that the Galaxy S26 series will be the first Samsung phones in years to feature a dedicated camera button.

For your information, the last Samsung phone with a dedicated camera button was probably the Galaxy K Zoom from 2014, which was essentially an Android-powered digital camera that could also make calls.

On the other hand, Samsung has not yet officially confirmed the Galaxy S26 lineup. However, according to reports, the company may unveil the Galaxy S26 series at a Samsung Unpacked event in February 2026. This upcoming series could be available in early March. Stay tuned for more information.
