The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 series have finally started getting the December 2024 security update. The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23 have already received the latest security update. Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 series users have patiently waited for this update to hit their flagship phones.
Samsung Galaxy S22 and S21 series get December 2024 security update in Europe
Users of Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra can identify the December 2024 security patch through the firmware version numbers S901BXXSDEXKA, S906BXXSDEXKA, and S908BXXSDEXKA, respectively.
The December 2024 update can be identified by the build number G99xBXXSEGXK1 for Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra, in addition to Galaxy S22. This initial rollout appears to be limited to Europe, but the company should not take long for the update to roll out to more regions.
The latest security update improves system stability and reliability to provide a better Galaxy experience. It also fixes around 45 security issues to boost your phone’s performance. Notable, the December 2024 security patch brings impotent fixes from both Google and Samsung.
Google addresses 6 critical and 28 high-level issues, with 1 previously resolved and 1 not affecting Galaxy devices. Meanwhile, Samsung itself fixes 8 specific vulnerabilities related to Theme Center, Galaxy Watch Bluetooth functionality, SmartSwitch, and Dex Mode. Additionally, the Samsung Semiconductor has improved performance with fics for 2 high-level issues.

This update is based on the Android 14 and One UI 6.1. Both Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S22 series are also eligible for the next major update, the One UI 7. The company already started releasing the One UI 7 beta for its flagship and the stable update will soon be available after the Galaxy S25 series launch.
