Samsung has begun internal work on One UI 8, likely based on the Android 16

With Google soon to release the first Android 16 beta in the coming weeks, it’s only a matter of time before we find out that Samsung software team is working on the next major release for its software, which will apparently be called One UI 8

On the flip side, Samsung fans are looking forward to the One UI 7 that’s due this month. Meanwhile, SmartPrix, a renowned publication, has mysteriously discovered some apps and found “One UI 8” in multiple places. These codes are mentioned with One UI 6.1 and One UI 7.0. You can see this in the image below.

Now, evidence suggests that Samsung has begun internal work on the latest iteration of One UI 8, likely based on Android 15. However, it could possibly be based on the new beta version of Android 16, which will be launched by Google soon this month.

The One UI 7 release was quite late this year, with the company taking longer than last year to release a new One UI beta. Last month, Samsung released the One UI 7 beta for the Galaxy S24 series, but the news about One UI 8 could be a good sign for Samsung users as we could see the rollout of this next major upgrade sooner than One UI 7.

Notable: Typically, Samsung begins internal development of a major new version of One UI soon after Google releases the first developer beta version of Android. The company has been testing Android 16 internally since late November 2024, and the new code version now appearing on Samsung’s app is an indication that the company is in development, and the One UI 8 beta program for the Galaxy S25 series could begin later this year.

One UI 8 could be released in late Q3 of 2025

Google is set to release Android 16 in the second quarter of 2025, so One UI 8.0 could also be released earlier. Samsung usually releases the stable version of One UI three months after Google releases the stable version of Android. So, it is possible that the Korean tech giant could release One UI 8 in the third quarter of 2025 instead of Q4.
