Samsung and its rival, Apple continued to dominate position in the US smartphone sales in Q3 2024. According to recent research from Counterpoint, the US smartphone sell-in Q3 2024 fell 6% YoY due to weak demand in both prepaid and postpaid channels.
Samsung remains 2nd in US smartphone sales in Q3 2024
As per the report, Samsung ranked second biggest smartphone brand in terms of sales numbers in the US whereas Apple still dominates. Its market share has declined from 25% in Q3 2023 to 23% in Q3 2024. The Korean tech giant launched the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 in July, but sales haven’t increased the company’s sales.
Adding to this, Samsung’s two foldable smartphones – the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, could boost overall sales in the fourth quarter, mostly conducted by festival offers.
Apple is still dominating with a US market share was 53% in the third quarter of this year, which is down 5% YoY with weaker sales impacting the company during the quarter.
The US-based OEM launched the iPhone 16 series in later the third quarter, and it looks like they haven’t increased the company sales.
Combined with Motorola and Lenovo figures, the company’s sales increased 21% YoY primarily thanks to an improved prepaid performance from the Moto G Play 2024 and its value-for-money series.
Motorola was the third biggest smartphone brand in terms of sales numbers with a 14% market share – 9% the Samsung in the US.
