uTag lets you use Samsung SmartTag with any Android device.
Samsung Galaxy SmartTags offer a solution, that ensures you can locate your items. However, this SmartTag is designed only to work seamlessly with Galaxy phones and tablets equipped with the latest SmartThings app version, Now a developer developed A new app called uTag lets you use Samsung SmartTag with any Android device.
Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2 can work with any Android phone using uTag app
Recently, a developer (Kieron Quinn) has successfully designed an app called uTag (via Mishal Rahman) that allows you to set up and use the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2 on any Android phone.
Furthermore, uTag is an Android app that essentially mimics SmartThings Find, an app created by Samsung that lets you visually track your Galaxy devices. With this new app, you can set up a brand new Galaxy SmartTag2, see its location, make it ring, change its ringtone, customize its button behavior, and more.
Apart from this, the app also supports the Precise Find feature, which is a feature that shows you where your tag actually is if your phone has ultra-wideband (UWB) support, which is amusing because Google’s network still doesn’t support this feature.
It also gives you alerts when a SmartTag is traveling with you, notifies you if a tag is left behind or found, and allows you to share tags with family. Further, you can view the location history of your tags.
For the uTag to work, you need to install a special version of the SmartThings app. This is because the patched version of SmartThings skips the part where the app checks if you are using it on a Samsung phone and disables SmartThings Find if it finds a non-Samsung device.
If your phone is running Android 11 or later, you can download uTag for free from GitHub. This is a great solution for those who want to use Samsung’s tracker SmartTag on any Android phone.
Once it’s installed, you’ll need to sign in to your Samsung account twice, once in SmartThings and then in uTag.

Android 17 (One UI 9) may add a ‘Universal Clipboard’ for Galaxy devices
Google and Samsung are yet to release Android 17 and One UI 9 Beta for Pixel and Galaxy devices. Meanwhile, Google is working on a Universal Clipboard for Android phones and PCs, with Android 17. This means Samsung’s One UI 9 could bring universal clipboard to Galaxy devices.
According to Android Authority, Android 17 includes a feature called UniversalClipboardManager. This tool appears inside Google’s continuity framework, which transfers copied content between Android devices without a third-party tool
Samsung’s current cross-device features, like Quick Share, Samsung Flow, and Phone Link, do not offer built-in clipboard syncing. Fortunately, that could change in next year’s One UI 9 update, as Google is working on a Universal Clipboard for Android phones and PCs.
If Samsung follows the One UI 8 schedule, One UI 9 is expected to arrive alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 in mid-2026. If Google implements Universal Clipboard in Android 17, Samsung will likely add it in One UI 9.
