Samsung SMR: January 2025 Security patch released
We are in January 2025 and Samsung has announced a first maintenance release of this year for its Galaxy devices as part of its monthly security updates. The company has finally today released details of the January 2025 security patch, which includes patches from both Google and Samsung to fix numerous vulnerabilities and bugs affecting the Android system and One UI software.
On the Android side, the Samsung January 2025 security patch addresses 5 critical, 24 high levels of CVEs for the Android operating system. Nevertheless, 1 CVE was resolved by previous updates from the company and 2 is not relevant to Galaxy devices.
As usual, Samsung has also provided more details about the vulnerabilities affecting its software UI skin. The latest patch includes 22 Samsung-specific patches, which improve the security and performance of the SoundPicker, Samsung Message, NotificationManager, and Protection Mechanism Failure in bootloader.
In short, this patch fixes various vulnerabilities and bugs affecting the Android system and Samsung devices. Although Samsung has not yet started rolling out the January 2025 security patch for Galaxy devices, it will soon be available for all eligible devices.

One UI 7
As the company continues to develop the One UI 7 update, which will likely come out with the Galaxy S25 series. Notably, Samsung recently released the third One UI 7 beta update for the Galaxy S24 series.
Additionally, the Galaxy S25 series with One UI 7, Snapdragon 8 Elite, and Seamless updates is expected to launch at the Galaxy Unpacked event in the US on January 22, 2025.

One UI 8 update rolling out to Galaxy Z Flip 4, Fold 4
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 started getting the Android 16-based One UI 8 update. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 receive four major Android OS updates and five years of security updates. It shipped with Android 12L, and the company’s 2022 flagship foldables are now receiving their last major OS upgrade.
One UI 8 update is available for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 on Verizon in the US. The software will expand gradually to owners of the company’s 2022 flagship foldables around the world.

Samsung has officially released the One UI 8 update for the Galaxy Tab S10 Lite, Galaxy A06 5G, and Galaxy F17 5G smartphones. The update is based on Android 16 and obtains new features, a new design, and improved performance. Users of these devices in South Korea and India have started receiving the update.
