Galaxy S25 does not support the Android Virtualization Framework (AVF) security feature: One UI 8 should fix this.

The new year always starts with a new Galaxy S smartphone series. In 2025, we’ll officially get the Samsung Galaxy S25 family! These are Samsung’s flagship smartphones for this year, with the best cameras, fastest processors, and most comprehensive firmware features. Meanwhile, a new report claims that the Galaxy S25 series is missing a crucial Android security feature (AVF) that Google wants to make mandatory on all new devices running Android 15 and above.
Android expert Mishal Rahman recently claimed that Samsung’s Galaxy S25-series smartphones do not support Android’s Advanced Virtualization Framework (AVF) security feature. This means Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra are incompatible with some advanced features such as the upcoming Android Linux Terminal app.
Google has introduced AVF (Advanced Virtualization Framework) in Android 13. This advanced security feature lets your device create secure, isolated virtual machines that run MicroDroid, a smaller version of Android. They can run code in a secure environment with limited access to the smartphone’s hardware and sensitive data.
In contrast, AVF can keep the code running on the host device safe from malicious apps. Samsung’s own Knox solution like many of the security benefits of AVF, such as isolating sensitive data and biometrics from the rest of the Android operating system.
We can hope that Samsung will add support for the AVF security feature on Galaxy devices in One UI 8 as Android 16’s Terminal app is turning out to be an incredibly useful feature!
If it doesn’t change to the Android 16-based One UI 8, it means the device will not support the new Terminal app that lets you run Linux distros in a virtual machine.
