One UI 8 beta 2

With the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung provides up to seven years of updates, including both Android version updates and security updates, matching Google’s best commitment to updates in the Android world. Now, Qualcomm’s collaboration with Google enables device manufacturers to provide up to eight years of software and security updates, starting with Snapdragon 8 Elite. The announcement confirmed that the Galaxy S25 series is compatible with up to 8 years of Android updates.

According to the information, Qualcomm now offers device manufacturers the ability to provide support for eight years of continuous Android software and security updates, starting with Android smartphones running on the Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile platform. In addition, smartphones launching on the new Snapdragon 8 and 7-series mobile platforms will also be eligible to receive this extended support.

In short, future Galaxy phones including Galaxy S25 series with Snapdragon chips may get 8 Android OS updates. Qualcomm and Google will deliver kernel updates and additional software required to provide major Android OS updates without any significant changes.

As mentioned above, Samsung offers up to 7 years of OS and security updates on recent flagship models. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S25 series could go even further, reaching an Android software update lifespan of up to 8 years instead of seven years of software support.

For now, only the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S24 Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 lineup will receive seven years of updates. on the other hand, recently launched mid-range and entry-level devices will receive four and five years of updates.

This announcement is good for Galaxy S25 series users, as they are likely to get extended software support. New flagships with Snapdragon 8 Elite and beyond chips will also be eligible, however, the Galaxy S24 series has already been excluded from the program, as they come with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processors.
